British Columbia Species at Risk and Endangered Species
1. Open a Noodle tools project to keep track of your sources and build your bibliography for this project. http://www.noodletools.com/
2. Start by going to the BC Ministry of Environment’s webpage and locate the tool: “BC Species and Ecosystems Explorer: Species and Ecosystem Search” . This tool will help you select the species you want to report on.

Launch the BC Species and Ecosystems Explorer by clicking on the yellow button
Use either the basic or advanced search features to find a species of interest to you.
Once you have picked a species, click on the reports icon to find out more information about that species.
Start with the BC Species Summary, then check out some of the other links for further resources.
Or, use the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) website: http://www.cosewic.gc.ca/eng/sct5/index_e.cfm
Or, use the Government of Canada’s Species at Risk List to select your species. http://www.registrelep-sararegistry.gc.ca/species/schedules_e.cfm?id=1
3. You may also want to search for Non Governmental Organizations( NGO’s) as well.
These are non profit groups dedicated to preserving these species. They may be specific to one species or cover many species or regions. Limit your search to :.org to find these sources
For example searching burrowing owl:.org results in a list of organizations dedicated to preserving this species.

The protect biodiversity website http://www.protectbiodiversity.ca/species/ is a consortium of BC environmental groups.
